Overview of Florence B Dearing Museum Collection Policy

At the March 26, 2007 Hartland Area Historical Society Board of Trustees meeting, a Collections Policy was adopted. In this policy is found both the mission and the vision of the Hartland Area Historical Society. The scope of collection statement tells you what the museum collects, both now and in the future. The steps for acquiring objects and accessioning them into the collection as an artifact are explained. Occasionally, a museum finds it necessary to dispose of an artifact by deaccessioning. The policy and procedure for deaccessioning an artifact is explained. If you are considering loaning an object to the museum, the incoming loans section of the policy tells you what you can expect for the care and handling of your object. The outgoing loans section covers how the museum protects the artifacts when they leave the museum as a traveling exhibit. The last section is the ethics policy. It covers what is expected of the Hartland Area Historical Society Board of Trustees, the Collection Committee and museum volunteers while they are working with the collection and the public.

The museum accepts historical and cultural objects, photographs, and archival materials relating to the rural past of the Hartland area from circa 1830's through the 1950's. To donate an item to the Museum call Curator, Mike Forster 810-632-5168.
