The board game Monopoly, as well as its electronic slot machine counterpart, appears to have been around forever. The amount of people who own a copy and keep it stashed away is mind-boggling. But there have been exceptions; for example, in China, the game Monopoly was outlawed because of its perceived pro-capitalist overtones. However, the restriction reportedly ended about the time China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001. People in China may now experience the delight of buying up entire blocks and making their grandmother homeless because she can’t afford the rent.
This brings us to SG Digital’s Monopoly Lunar New Year, which incorporates elements of the classic board game with Asian traditions and customs. However, the game’s setting is mostly Asian, since it takes place in one of those crimson rooms with gold accents and a beautifully patterned back wall. An Asian funk soundtrack adds a another layer to a scene that otherwise has very nothing to do with Monopoly. This isn’t so much a version of Monopoly with an Asian twist as it is an Asian game variant of Monopoly.
Monopoly Lunar New Year employs what SG calls an Any Ways pays mechanism to piece together combinations, and it may be played from 22 p/c to £/€20 each spin, with a return to player value of 95.95%. There are 243 possible winning combinations in the standard 5-reel, 3-row grid, with wins paid from left to right across the board beginning with the first reel. Goody baskets, pigs, presents, tea sets, archways, and Mr. Monopoly pay anywhere from 1.5 to 7.5 times your wager for a full house. The wild symbol, which can appear on reels 2, 3, or 4, can be used in place of any other pay sign to create a winning combination.
Slot Functions in the Monopoly Lunar New Year Edition
Many of the features of Monopoly Lunar New Year are adapted from a game called Marvellous Mouse. Here you will discover the Jackpot feature, the Red Envelope feature, the Expanding Reels Free Spins, the Lunar Chest Free Spins, and the Lunar Coins.
Cash and Coins of the Moon
The Jackpot feature, free games with expanding reels or the Lunar Chest, and other special payouts are all shown in chests that appear at the top of reels 1, 3, and 5. If a Lunar Coin lands on the main grid, it will either show a multiplier for the Token Value (up to a maximum of x10) or a Crescent Moon icon. Prizes from the Chest above the reels are awarded if the Crescent Moon symbol appears on reels 1, 3, or 5.
Multiplier Reel Free Games
In the regular game, using a Lunar Coin to activate this bonus gives you 8 more turns. The number of possible winning combinations increases to 7,776 during the Expanding Reels Free Spins bonus round, when the reels can grow from their normal 5×3 size to 5×4, 5×5, or 5×6. Free games are multiplied by one or two if coin symbols appear, up to a maximum of fifty.
Wild Re-Spins at the Moon’s Treasure Chest
When a Crescent Moon appears on the same reel as a Lunar Feature Chest, this bonus round is started from the basic game. When this happens, you’ll receive 8 free games with all Lunar Coin symbols replaced by Chests stacked above the five reels. Each time they land, Lunar Coins show either a multiplier for the token’s worth, an additional spin (up to 50 total), a crescent moon, or a full moon. The top Chest reward is given out by a Crescent Moon, while a Full Moon gives out all five Chests. In this round, chests only provide multipliers for tokens.
Prize Pot Option
Only the main game may activate the jackpot bonus. When the feature is in use, players are given a total of 15 choices. In each round, one or two cards are exposed, and they might be either Property Cards or Upgrade Cards. All Jackpots are increased by one level, and the Grand Jackpot is increased to a Double Grand Jackpot if three Upgrade Cards are revealed before a Jackpot is given. Four Property Cards must be revealed in order to win the corresponding Jackpot(s). Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand Jackpots are initially valued 10, 25, 100, and 2,000 times the token value, respectively.
With a Red Envelope Added!
Red Envelope Mystery Prizes are awarded at random throughout the main game and can be worth up to 3,888 credits.
Winner of the Monopoly Lunar New Year Slot Game
The Lunar New Year edition of Monopoly faithfully recreates the Asian cultural part of the game more so than the Monopoly side. The Mr. Monopoly emblems are the sole constant reminder that you’re playing a board game. The remainder is overwhelmingly Asian, but there are plenty of Monopoly slots for anyone more interested in honoring the spirit of business. However, given that this game is based on the classic Hasbro board game, this strategy is very appropriate.
Players interested in feature-rich Asian slots may also find a lot to like with Monopoly Lunar New Year’s various opportunities to earn cash. Learn to rely on the Chest multipliers that appear above the reels in the main game, as they will provide the vast bulk of your feature wins. The three bonus rounds are difficult to initiate, and the token value system is strangely high, so it’s easy to lose a lot of money before you win. When the Monopoly Lunar New Year feature is active, however, the possible payouts increase to an astonishing 13,771 times the initial wager.
Players who for some reason enjoy classic Asian-themed slot machines will find much to enjoy in Monopoly Lunar New Year. The game was created by SG as a nod to the Lunar New Year celebration. Although it features Rich Uncle Pennybags and the Monopoly board game, it doesn’t go heavy on the Monopoly elements like some other slot machines.
